To coin a well-worn phrase, “it’s complicated”.
In Local Government terms, South Woodham Ferrers – a town of around 20,000 people (13,000 adults) – is a suburb of the City of Chelmsford. Its location, ten miles from the City centre makes it easy for city-centric administrations to overlook.
There are no ready cycle routes to enable trendy ‘modal transport shifts’, no direct rail links, and an infrequent bus service.
Indeed, it’s often quicker to access hospitals in Central London than local hospitals, if you have to use public transport.
However, for National Government purposes, we form part of Maldon constituency, which also incorporates the villages of Danbury, and Stock.
Our MP – Sir John Whittingdale OBE – has represented South Woodham Ferrers at Westminster since the creation of the then Maldon and East Chelmsford constituency in 1997.
Sir John holds monthly constituency ‘surgeries’ in Town, and appointments can be made through the Maldon Conservative Association by ‘phone at 01621 855663 or by email office@maldonconservatives.org
